Meet the Surgeon Who Performs Every Step Himself

The Eye Clinic of Florida opened in Zephyrhills in 1997 and has stayed a single office ever since, by choice. Ahad Mahootchi, MD, founded the practice and still performs every surgery himself. At most practices this size, a rotating group of surgeons handles the schedule. Here, one person does both, and he has done it in the same building for almost thirty years.

Dr. Mahootchi is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a past president of the Tampa Bay Ophthalmology Society and serves as president of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology. He has completed more than 30,000 procedures and is a national leader in the XEN Gel Stent, a tiny drainage device used in glaucoma treatment.

Zhi Hao Huang, OD, sees patients for a full range of optometry and optical care. That covers eye exams and contact lens fittings, both regular and specialty. He also treats eye diseases, including chronic dry eye, and handles the visits before and after surgery. He speaks English, French, and Chinese.

Most of our work is cataract surgery with premium lens implants and custom lens replacement for people who want out of reading glasses. About 98% of our cataract patients end up seeing well at distance with little or no prescription. Surgery happens at our own center, which is Medicare approved, Florida licensed, and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
